From Telluride to Breckenridge, Tara Skredynski has always loved exploring the mountains in Colorado. She has worked for both Outward Bound and the American Alpine Club. She gravitates towards an early morning skin and ski, a tree-lined single track ride, or hiking with her family in Boulder, Colorado. A regular yoga practice keeps her grounded when she can’t get outside.
Out of the box, the Oboz Sawtooth Women’s Mid Boot are a comfortable hiking boot, with hardly any break in time. I tested these on dry and dusty trails in Boulder as well as rocky river crossings in the Aspen Valley of Colorado.
Fit and Size
I found them to be true to size with a wide toe box and no slip heel fit. They are waterproof and breathable in warm weather. If you have a narrow foot these may not be the boots for you. I tested them in cool to hot temperatures, ranging from 50 to 80 degrees.
These hiking boots breath well in warmer temperatures while still remain waterproof in wet conditions. The sole grips the trail well and holds in rocky terrain. I crossed slippery rocks easily in rivers and felt solid on steeps. If you like good support with a heavy pack for longer hikes or an ankle support boot for local hiking, this is the boot.
- Very versatile boots that are durable and fit a wider foot well.
- Great for snowy conditions or changing weather, from dry and dusty to wet and slippery.
- Great stability and support if you’re wearing a heavy pack.
- Oboz sole maintains traction and offers great support.
- Could be a poor fit if you have a narrow foot.
- Sidewall lugs are a bit clunky for everyday hiking.
The Sawtooth Mid boot is very versatile and comfortable in a variety of conditions. If you like a mid-ankle fit for added support but want something breathable and waterproof this is the boot for you, plus it comes in nice colors!
