ProView – Bobo’s Oat Bar Chocolate Chip

In a world full of dry, stodgy, and mostly mediocre snack bars I have always found Bobo’s Oat Bars to stand out a bit. It’s something about the texture and the flavor choices that I have always enjoyed. When I’m shopping for snack bars I usually gravitate away from the basic flavors like Chocolate Chip and towards something a little different like lemon poppyseed, but this time Chocolate Chip won me over.

Bobo’s Oat Bar Chocolate Chip

Product Name: Bobo’s Oat Bar Chocolate Chip

Product Description: No offense to Chocolate Chip cookies, but our Chocolate Chip oat bar is kind of a big deal. This tasty treat feels more like dessert than breakfast, but without the guilt. The slow-burning oats leave you feeling satiated beyond measure, satisfying your hunger and your sweet tooth. We recommend this bar at all times, 24-hours-a-day.

Summary

The Bobo’s Chocolate Chip Oat Bar is a filling snack bar that’s just sweet enough without being a full-on desert. It has enough calories to earn it’s spot on most adventurers packs with the caveat that you must like chocolate. Not that you would purchase a chocolate chip bar if you didn’t like chocolate but you can expect a chocolate forward flavor. It’s not too dense but you might want to have some water on hand just in case!

Overall
4.5

Pros

  • Good Taste
  • Plenty of Calories
  • Not to Dense
  • Lifestyle Friendly
  • Not too Sweet

Cons

  • Can be a little dry if you don’t have plenty of water

In truth, I’m pretty sure that I have tasted every Bobo’s flavor available except for the Chocolate Chip option. There’s something about eating chocolate while exercising that has always turned me off a little. It’s has nothing to do with nutrition it just doesn’t sound appetizing to me when I’m hungry and looking for a quick snack. So, when it came time to test the Bobo’s Chocolate Chip Oat Bar, I admit I was already a bit skeptical. To my surprise, I found that I actually really it!

Nutrition

The Bobo’s Chocolate Chip Oat Bar is packed full of 360 calories making it energy rich enough to earn a place in my pack. Much like other Bobo’s bars on the market this one is pretty dense. I have no problem eating one of these on a hike, but I’m not sure i’d want to eat it mid-marathon. I think all oat bars can be a little dry (depending on their freshness) and the Bobo’s Chocolate Chip bar is no different. It is a little dry but not in a bad way and it’s not overly chewy. To me, it tastes a like a slightly more healthy chocolate chip cookie. Sweet, but not too sweet, and savory enough to satiate a hungry athlete.  I haven’t had any upset stomach issues like I have with other bars and it doesn’t sit like a rock in my stomach either.

Packability

Since the bar is packed full of chocolate chips you’ll want to be cognizant of where you pack these in your pack because they can melt.

Use

I’d definitely recommend the Bobo’s Chocolate Chip Oat Bar to all the chocolate loving adventurers out there. They’re great for most activities aside from maybe intense cardio. I wouldn’t want to eat one of these in a hurry. They’re great for backpacking, hiking, and mountain biking. I even leave a couple in my truck (although they do melt in the summer). Bonus points due to the fact that Bobo’s bars are lifestyle friendly (vegan and gluten free).

Causes

Bobo’s as a company supports a lot of different causes by giving 100% profit to a variety of non-profit organizations or by volunteering at community service events. A more complete list can be found on their website.
