ProView – GoLite Women’s ReFill Eco100 Jacket

I got a lot of comments on this jacket. Folks were surprised when I told them it was GoLite. They would inform me that GoLite went out of business a while ago. Jokes on us. GoLite is still around and making a comeback. The company is passionate about creating clothing that recycles plastic bottles into fabric and leaves less of a footprint. Made from 100% recycled polyester the ReFill Eco100 is doing just that.

GoLite Women's ReFill Eco100 Jacket

Product Description: The epitome of earth-friendliness. Wear the ReFill Eco100 and you'll feel great knowing you've prevented 28 plastic bottles from ending up in our oceans or a landfill. The ReFill Eco100 features signature GoLite ReGreen fabric utilizing Da.Ai collected and recycled green bottles, ensuring that all are true post-consumer waste. Using the green bottles eliminates the need for dying, further reducing the ecological footprint. Colored plastic bottles are less desirable and often go unrecycled into landfills. The Jacket also features Primaloft® Silver Eco Fill – 100gm in the body and 60GM in the sleeves and an eco-DWR finish for sustainable protection in variable weather conditions.

Features

This coat was perfect for fall in Utah. As a backpacking guide, fall is the hardest season to prep for. I’m out on trail eight days at a time. With the temperature always changing, one minute I’m wearing shorts and the next I’m putting on every single layer I have. The ReFill Eco100 kept me cozy all week even when the temps were down to 20 degrees, while still feeling light. My favorite feature is the hood. It goes just far enough over my hair to keep my head warm without covering my eyes. There is a drawstring cinch that keeps it from falling off. An inside zippered pocket on the right-hand side is perfect for storing your small necessities, ie- where I keep my peanut butter spoon.

Durability

Although a mid-layer, the material of the jacket doesn’t feel overly durable, but after four weeks on trail the jacket was still in great condition (even after scrambling through bushes and reaching over fire pits).

Fit/Comfort

I’m on the taller side for a woman, 5’9,” so it was exciting putting on a jacket that was long enough in the torso and the sleeves. It’s light and breathable and I had plenty of room for shoulder and arm movement. The back covers me to mid bum.

Look/Style

The coat comes in simple colors- a grey camo style, sage green, and a steel blue. The earthy tone of the green is easy going with a pop of a yellow zipper. It could just as easily be worn with jeans in town when off-trail.

Features

There is a zippered interior pocket and the hood and waist are adjustable with elastic draws. Along the sides of the jacket is a reflective stripe.

Weight/Packability

This jacket feels light. I easily stuffed it into different side pockets and the between spaces of my backpack. It weighs less than five ounce.

Function/Performance

I’ve worn this coat on the trail for the last month for several reasons. It keeps me warm, while still letting me have enough room to add layers under or over. The pockets hold enough space for notebooks, apples, even a small coffee thermos. Testing this coat in the fall meant I wore it out in the mountains and the desert while working. Dry snow brushed off easily, and sand didn’t affect the zippers.

Durability/Construction

The ReFill Eco100 Jacket is made from 100% recycled polyester. While wearing the coat it was funny to think, “I’m wearing 28 plastic bottles right now.” It has a 100g fill in the body and has a 60g fill in the sleeves.

Room for Improvement

I wasn’t impressed with the seams around the zippers. There is already slight pilling and threads coming out after wearing it for a month.
