ProView – Outdoor Research Women’s Vigor Hybrid Hooded Jacket

I first started using the Vigor Hybrid Hooded jacket as a base layer while skiing and loved that it has thumb loops so it’s easy to slip it under my jacket and even under mittens to eliminate any sort of gap at the wrist and doesn’t bunch up at the forearms. I also used the chest pocket to keep my phone/chapstick/SPF handy and warm rather than keeping them in an exterior jacket pocket. The hood is low profile enough that I don’t notice it folded under my outer jacket in-resort and when hiking or skinning in cold temps I can pull it up over my hat for extra wind or cold protection. I used this both with a single thin layer underneath on a cold morning while skinning and with a thin layer plus a medium fleece layer on a blustery resort day with this under another coat and never felt too packed in, despite the slim, flattering fit of the jacket.

Outdoor Research Women's Vigor Hybrid Hooded Jacket

Product Description: The Vigor Collection is your guaranteed ticket to layering intuitively and effectively for cold weather adventures. Each Vigor piece is powered by ActiveTemp™, the thermo-regulating technology that adjusts to your body temperature to keep you cool, dry, and comfortable during high-exertion activities. This tech works hand-in-hand with Vigor’s grid fleece fabric, which wicks sweat and allows total breathability when you’re gunning it uphill. The Vigor Hybrid Hooded Jacket is complete with a hybrid-mapped design using VerticalX™ Air, the adaptable insulation that keeps you warm when you need it, and rapidly moves moisture the moment you start to perspire. A flat seam construction lets you feel threadless and eliminates uncomfortable chafing, while thumb loops hold your sleeves down and layer well under gloves. Take on each new adventure with Vigor.

Fit

This jacket is comfortable and has a nice fit that’s not too roomy. You can fit a base layer or two underneath if needed. It’s stylish enough to wear from work to the bike park to happy hour in the Fall and I’m pleased with the unique color options and have gotten lots of compliments on it!

With the ability to layer underneath it, it also makes a great outerwear option when it is cold but not too windy. I took advantage of this on a bluebird, 30-degree Fahrenheit day in Arches National Park taking some beginners canyoneering. I was comfortable all day long and just pulled up the hood when it got breezy. Despite not being a shell, both the torso and sleeve material is very durable and held up to scrambling through the harsh sandstone. I also liked how well it compacts and stretches so it was comfortable under my harness and while climbing up steep washes.

Features

The Vigor Hybrid Hooded Jacket touts excellent temperature control features and they were evident in most activities – both high and moderate output. The synthetic torso keeps helps keep warmth in when it’s cold, and the grid fleece on the inside is not only cozy and soft but also helps wick moisture away as soon as I started to sweat, particularly while skiing and skinning. It’s quick dry features make it a great option for high-output activities.

The jacket also has a few other useful bonus features that separate it from others in its category including the Low-Pro™ Binding Cuffs that keep the sleeves close to the wrists but not too tight, the elastic drawcord hem, and a key clip in one of the hand pockets so you can keep them attached if you’re going on a short adventure without a backpack.

In addition to using this on ropes and snow, I find myself reaching for this jacket regularly for house projects because of its durability. I also reach for it when travelling because I can squish it into even the fullest of backpacks on a flight, and everyday errands and events.

The Final Word

I continue to take this jacket everywhere and would recommend it as a great quick-drying jack of all trades piece to take on any adventure.
